Protection against electric arcs AFDD-32. Fire prevention, at another level

The firm presents the AFDD-32 range specialized in early warning of fires caused by electric arc.

A failure that causes 25% of home fires.

–  Retelec System, specialists in efficient solutions for electrical systems, presents its new MAXGE devices for protection against electric arc. A failure that represents 1 in every 4 fires in homes, and that has also motivated a awareness campaign in the Community of Madrid, through its regional television Telemadrid, where RETELEC proposes to promote the periodic review of electrical installations.

Despite the danger posed by the electric arc, current regulations do not provide protection against this failure. A problem known as electric arc, which occurs after the electric discharge that forms between two electrodes subjected to a potential difference in a gaseous atmosphere. The electric arc starts when the ends of these two electrodes come close enough for an intense current to pass through them, causing great heating at the point of contact. A flash similar to a light discharge is formed between them, which causes the installation to burn, and can lead to a fire.

AFDD-32: Technology at the service of security

The electric arc is a cause of risks and insecurity. Its origin can be diverse, from poor installation of the connections, or if they are loose or there is vibration between them. But it can also occur when the mechanical dimensions of these connections are not adequate, or if the insulation or degree of protection of the equipment is not adequate. In the worst case, the lack of maintenance, the dirt and humidity accumulated over years, the presence of pets in the home, are also the trigger for this devastating electrical failure.

Such a high risk, which however has a simple and economical solution with the installation of the equipment AFDD-32. RETELEC System has designed a specific range for the protection of electrical installations against electric arc. It is available in curves B and C, and includes various equipment for the protection of electric arcs.

RETELEC System's AFDD-32 series is composed of a Miniature Circuit Breaker (MCB), and an arc fault detection module. All integrated in 1P+N in 2 modules for DIN rail, combining protection against short circuits, overloads, and electric arc faults. In the event of fault detection, the AFDD-32 switches off, with the added advantage of being able to recognize series, parallel and ground arc faults in both radial and ring circuits.
